The P.G.
Department of studies in Biochemistry was established as
a division of the Department of Chemistry Karnatak
University Dharwad in the year 1970 under the able
headship of Dr. M. Madaiah, of the Central College
Bangalore. Subsequently, it was bifurcated as an
independent department in the year 1997. The Department
had / has the following faculty members.
The main thrust of the Department continues to be
teaching and research in Biochemistry. We have M.Sc. by
papers and Ph.D. Programmes in Biochemistry. Our
students have successfully cleared the NET, CSIR and
GATE examinations. Our department has so far produced
about 425 M.Sc.s, 1 M.Phil and 32 Ph.D.s. Our excellent
training in both, theory and practicals enables our
students to get good placements in National and
International Research Laboratories, Pharmaceutical
companies, Medical, Dental, Nursing, colleges and
Universities of Agricultural sciences. Some of our
students have successfully completed their Ph.D
Programmes from internationally acclaimed institutes
like Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore, Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai,
National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS)
Bangalore, Central Food and Technological Research
Institute (CFTRI) Mysore, Centre for Cellular and
Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad, National Institute
of Nutrition (NIN) Hyderabad, National Brain Research
Centre (NBRC) New Delhi, and National Centre for Cell
Sciences (NCCS), Pune.
Our students have also joined for Post Doctoral research
at foreign Universities.
